How the Texas electrician exam works

To get a journeyman electrician license in Texas you need 8,000 hours of on the job training as a registered apprentice, an approved application with TDLR and a passing score on the PSI exam.

Since September 2026 the exam is based on the 2026 National Electrical Code. The journeyman exam has two parts: 59 code questions in 130 minutes and 26 calculation questions in 110 minutes. You need 70 percent in each part.

The questions here are our own, written from the 2026 NEC and the PSI content outline. Each one comes with an explanation and the code reference, so you learn to find the answer in the book.

The complete question catalog

All 731 questions that could come up, each with the correct answer. You learn exactly what gets asked.

For every question you see how often others get it wrong and which answer they mix it up with. That way you spot the traps.

Test simulation like the real thing

85 questions, 240 minutes, graded like the real test: 70 percent in each part: at least 42 of 59 NEC and 19 of 26 calculation questions.

Every round is shuffled anew. Afterwards you see right away whether you would have passed and what is still missing.

Practice that adapts to you

The trainer remembers what you already know. Wrong answers come back until they stick, and a question only counts as learned once you have answered it correctly several times with time in between.

You can also practice individual topics or just your weak spots.

Your plan until the test
